Number One – The Continued Development Of Jameis Winston

This is supposed to be the big leap year for Jameis Winston, right? This is when we are supposed to see him get the turnovers and decision-making under control and take that big leap to the next level of quarterback.

He can’t do it without Koetter.

Koetter contemplated giving up his play-calling responsibilities in order to give himself more time to spend in the quarterback film room, continuing to develop Winston. We’ve seen the growth by Jameis under Koetter these first two seasons, but this will be a vital season in terms of growth for Winston.

He has the weapons – Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson, Adam Humphries, Chris Godwin, Cam Brate, O.J. Howard – and there is no reason we shouldn’t see that massive leap in Winston’s game.

Again, it all boils down to Koetter continuing his work with him and turning him into the next big quarterback in the NFL. We’ve seen Koetter do it with Matt Ryan and no one can honestly argue that Winston doesn’t possess every bit of potential Ryan did then, or does now.

The success of the Bucs hinges squarely on Winston. Without a quarterback, teams aren’t going to enjoy any kind of sustained playoff contention. We know Winston is the guy – he’s on the verge of already owning the Bucs’ all-time quarterback touchdown record – but he can’t continue to take the risks and turn the ball over the way he did the first two seasons if the Bucs are going to make a championship run any time soon.

Another off-season under Koetter and Jameis will take that step we’re all looking forward to seeing.
