Buccaneers: DeSean Jackson shining early
By James Yarcho
Buccaneers big off-season acquisition DeSean Jackson has already had some jaw-dropping moments in training camp.
Buccaneers fans are excited for few things more than they are the debut of DeSean Jackson in a Bucs jersey on Sundays. After two days of training camp, Jackson has already been putting on a show for the fans that have attended the open sessions at One Buc Place.
Dirk Koetter spoke about Jackson’s big plays during Saturday’s practice;
"“I didn’t have a great view of those plays but based on what the crowd was doing I would say they must have been good. Again, it was a little sloppy because of the weather. Those weren’t the most perfect passes I’ve ever seen in my life. But we need playmakers. We talk about explosive plays and he made a couple today.”"
There are a lot of high hopes to the level of which DeSean Jackson can take this offense when it comes to explosive plays. After leading the league for a third season in yards per reception – 17.6 ypc in 2017.
One of the things we discussed on the latest Walking The Plank Podcast is the high probability of using DeSean Jackson in the slot in order to get Chris Godwin some extra snaps. Jackson’s production in the slot is something that will lead to big time plays this season.
Matt Harmon of NFL.com wrote about Jackson’s separation back in January. In 2017, Jackson recorded 12 receptions for 219 yards when lined up in the slot, an 18.25 yard per reception average. Though twelve receptions is a relatively small sample size, Jackson didn’t have the kind of complimentary weapons around him in Washington the way he will in Tampa.

It’s a time of great speculation and expectation, but if we see Jackson making the kind of plays in games the way we have already in training camp, the Buccaneers are in really good shape.
