Special Teams

Alas, I present to you, the slide you’ve all been waiting for….special teams! I’ll spare you the ratings for the special teams cover units, but the ratings for their kicker(s), punter, and potential return men are all worth mentioning, sarcasm aside.

The second round pick heard round the world, Roberto Aguayo, was given an appropriately miserable 73 overall to reflect his miserable rookie season, and though its unclear whether he’ll beat out competitor Nick Folk in real life, he has little chance of doing it in Madden. Folk was given a 78 overall, and both his kicking power and accuracy are higher than Aguayo’s. In Madden at least, Aguayo has already busted.

Bryan Anger was Tampa’s special teams MVP last year, and its reflected in his Madden score. The Bucs punter came in at 85 overall, with 95 accuracy and 94 power. If you ever manage to stall with the high powered Bucs offense, don’t be afraid to utilize Anger’s lethal boot.

For years upon years the Buccaneers kick and punt return units have been miserable in both real life and Madden. The bad news is that’s not going to change this season in real life, but the good news is that it’s going to change in Madden! DeSean Jackson is an elite kick and punt returner for all he same reasons that he’s an elite receiver, and will be playing those roles for 100% of Madden players using the Bucs. Unfortunately in real life there’s a tricky slider called “fatigue” that can’t be turned off, so the Bucs will only be using Jackson on offense to preserve his energy.
