4. Roberto Aguayo

We know how big of a training camp this is for Roberto Aguayo. Specifically, he is working to mae sure it is not his last training camp with the Bucs. 2016 wasn’t exactly the year that he or the Bucs hoped for and he needs to improve. 22-31 on field goals simply isn’t good enough. By simple math, that is 27 points left on the board. Those points could have gone a long way to helping this team to the playoffs. This is why Nick Folk was brought to town.

Reports indicate that Aguayo is beginning to make the kicking competition interesting. Going 7-7, even though it isn’t a game, is still a great sign. There were times where Aguayo didn’t make seven field goals in cumulative practices. What is he doing differently? How is Aguayo getting past whatever was stopping him mentally? There are times in sports where the mental aspect can get in the way of the physical. If Aguayo is starting to make kicks consistently, he is getting past that. How is he doing it?

Also, the relationship with Folk should be interesting to watch. He’s a veteran so he can impart a great deal knowledge on the second year kicker. On the other hand, he wants the job as well. That dynamic should be quite compelling. Is Folk willing to mentor while he is competing for the roster spot? After all, Folk did talk about having a family to feed. He may not be willing to share secrets at all. Either way, it will be interesting to watch.
