The Increased Play of Chris Godwin with the Starters
With Mike Evans likely to sit out with a minor injury, third round pick Chris Godwin after practicing with the starter this week will likely get the start opposite DeSean Jackson. Godwin has been receiving rave review from the coaches and shown plenty of highlights during training camp practices, and Coach Koetter had this to say in his daily presser on August 23rd:
"“He looked good. Mike was out today so Chris got to work with the first group. Chris has had a couple of quieter days, more because he hasn’t gotten many opportunities. It was good to see him get some chances with Jameis today.”"

In the past the Buccaneers have had some training camp stars at receiver who fizzled once the games began. Most recently that receiver was 2015 fifth round pick Kenny Bell, but even though Godwin has only three receptions for 44 yards he has been targeted six times and also has the highest yards per reception average so far on the team in the preseason at 14.67 yards/catch.
Now obviously Godwin is not going to supplant Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson, or even Adam Humphries since he is not a slot receiver, but clearly as the fourth receiver and with great play with the starters he could be used more if says Jackson or Evans moves to the slot receiver spot in certain formations.
