QUARTERBACK

Jameis Winston brought his Buccaneers offense onto the field this opening week with more questions than answers.

While there was a lot of excitement surrounding the third-year quarterback, there was also a lot of pressure.

Considering the weapons brought onto the roster for him, it was very important he get off to a strong start, and show his franchise they made the right investments.

He started it off by orchestrating a solid opening drive which ended with a field goal to open the scoring.

Later, still in the first quarter, he connected on a 13-yard touchdown pass to Mike Evans giving the Bucs a 10-0 lead following the extra point.

It wasn’t all fans of the team likely dreamed it would be though.

Regularly, Winston threw high or too far in front of his receivers.

On two occasions, the talented young passer had veteran DeSean Jackson behind the Bears secondary and open.

Each time, he overthrew Jackson by about three yards and missed on what would have been big scores still early enough in the game for them to matter.

Later, with the game well in hand, Winston missed running back Charles Sims who had beaten the defense for a wide-open shot down the sideline.

While the throws didn’t hurt the Buccaneers this week, those are passes they’ll need completed in future games against teams like the Patriots and Packers.
