Left Guard- Evan Smith

Bet you did not see this one coming… well neither did I.

The most surprising thing so far this season on the Bucs offensive side of the ball has been the left guard position. Both guards Evan Smith and Kevin Pamphile have “shared” the position throughout the first three games… which must mean there is a competition.

Although the “competition” has been less than flashy due to the fact both guards have played significantly well, it is something to consider.

Both Smith and Pamphile are entering contract years for the Bucs, which is why this is such a curious case. At the beginning of the season Pamphile was expected to be the obvious starter, but was sidelined due to illness. This left the hole open for the taking and Smith took advantage of the situation ever since.

Through three games Smith has gotten a majority of the snaps at the left guard spot and now heading into fourth game of the season, look for the Bucs to pick an actual full-time starter.

It may not be flashy, but Smith is a Buc to watch.

Can the veteran take control?
