BETTER: THE RUN GAME

THE “DOUGERNAUT” RETURNS

The Buccaneers ran the ball quite well against the terrible Giants run defense which is currently giving up 139 yards per game (4th worst) rushing for 111 yards on twenty carries (4.8 yards/carry) with Jacquizz Rodgers accounting for 70% of the teams carries (16) and 75% of the yards (83) with a long of 36 yards and a 5.2 yard/carry average but no touchdowns.

Rodgers had a fairly even game by rushing nine time for 46 yards with 5.1 yards/carry in the first half and seven times for 37 yards with 5.2 yards/carry in the second half.

Jameis Winston was second on the team in rushing yards tied with Charles Sims, and Peyton Barber had two carries for two yards to round out the Buccaneers rushing.

On to the prime time week Patriots and the return of Doug Martin from suspension. Against the Patriots the Buccaneers being behind for most of the game ran three less times then they did against the Giants, rushing twenty times for 90 yards (4.5 yards/carry) and a touchdown against the ninth worst rushing defense allowing 124.2 yards/game and 4.3 yards/carry average.

Doug Martin came back with a vengeance after missing the first three weeks of the season to finish out his four game suspension accounting for 65% of the teams carries (13) and 82% of the yards (74) with a long of seventeen and a 5.7 yards/carry average and the team’s only rushing touchdown.

By comparison the Buccaneers ran better against the Giants then they did against the Patriots 23 carries for 111 yards (4.8 yards/carry) compared to 20 carries for 90 yards (4.5 yards/carry), but against the Pats they got that all important rushing touchdown and the aggressive running of Doug Martin back. Martin is expected to get more of the workload against the Cards as well.
