WORSE: THE KICKING GAME …. AGAIN ….

Well during week four against the Giants the cracks started to appear in the kicking game when kicker Nick Folk missed an extra point after the Giants forgot to cover O.J. Howard and he caught a 58 yards touchdown pass making it 13-0. Then in the first drive of the second quarter he missed a 46 yarder which would have made it 16-0, and then the first drive of the second half missing on a 49 yard field goal attempt that would have made it 19-10 but instead it stayed 16-10 and the Giants went on to take the lead 17-16 on their next drive.

When it mattered in the end though he did barely manage to kick the game winning 34 yard field goal as time expired to give the Buccaneers a 25-23 victory against the Giants. Although he went three for six (50%) in kicks going one for two on extra points and two for four on field goals.

Then came the Patriots game where Folk’s missed kicks and the Buccaneers slow start on offense basically cost the Buccaneers the a win first missing from 56 yards as the first half expired, then 49 yards shortly after the fourth quarter began, and then finally from 31 yards out costing the Buccaneers nine points and let’s see how many points did they lose by? … Five.

In the last two games Nick Folk and his kicking game went five for eleven in kicks or 45% missing six kicks or sixteen points, so something had to be done and the Buccaneers brought in six kickers for tryouts and selected former Buccaneers kicker Patrick Murray as the winner. Who was the kicker for the Buccaneers before the whole Roberto Aguayo drafted in the second round mess.

In reality I think Murray is a spot filler until Cairo Santos is fully healthy and he will then be signed as the long term kicker hopefully fixing the kicking issues that the Buccaneers have endured the last two season.
