Buccaneers Extra Points: A Week 4 to Week 5 Review
TRENDS: THIRD DOWN STRUGGLES FOR THE BUCCANEERS OFFENSE
CONTINUING DRIVES
For the season the Buccaneers have converted 16 of 45 third down opportunities (36%) with their best game coming in week two against the Bears when they converted on eight of fifteen tries for 53%, and their worst game was week three against the Vikings where they converted on one of six tries for 17%.
Currently they rank 27th (36%) in the NFL third down conversions while the other three teams in their division: Carolina ranks second (50%), Atlanta ranks eighth (43%), and New Orleans ranks twelfth at (41.7%) so if the Buccaneers want to compete for the NFC South title they need to improve in this category.
The Buccaneers have converted fourteen of their sixteen third down conversions by pass and two by rushing with another five by penalty. Having 29 drives end due to not being able to convert on third down is obviously not good and may have helped contribute to the Buccaneers slow start and eventual loss to the Patriots.
If they want to beat teams when they have them on the ropes and potential be the playoff team we all hope they are they need to convert on more third down opportunities.
