Buccaneers Extra Points: A Week 4 to Week 5 Review
TRENDS: JAMEIS WINSTON’S LACK ON INTERCEPTIONS
CAN IT CONTINUE?
Maybe surprising to some but, Jameis Winston has not thrown an interception since the last play of the week three loss to the Vikings during which he threw three interceptions. That is very good as last season he threw an average of 35 pass attempts per game and threw an interception every 32 pass attempts or just over one interception per game, but he did have a stretch of two games in a row (99 pass attempts) that he did not throw an interception.
This season so far he is averaging 39 pass attempts per game while throwing an interception every 51 pass attempts or under one per game. He is currently on an active streak of having not thrown an interception in his last 84 pass attempts.

What is different so far this season and can it continue? My guess is that having a comparable number two wide receiver has been a big difference in taking double and triple teams off of Mike Evans, and he does not have to try to force passes to Evans anymore because he has other options in DeSean Jackson and Cameron Brate.
Evans is obviously still the number one option but now if he is clearly not open Winston has other open receivers to throw to, but we know if Evans is even a little open Winston is going to throw to him as he currently leads the team in targets (40) and receptions (24).
Now the question is will Winston keep his interception numbers down this season? If he continues to go for the open careful passes instead of trying to throw a touchdown on every pass his interception numbers will likely be the lowest of his career as he is currently on pace to throw twelve interceptions this season.
Hopefully this plan will also cause his touchdown numbers and of course Buccaneers wins to increase. With an under performing Cardinals secondary (just four interceptions) next hopefully he continues his current no interception streak.
