Buccaneers Round Table: Defensive Keep, Trade, Release
Marc Magana
This week has us debating the same Buccaneers problem as last week, but the defensive side.
With the way all three are playing this year, it makes this decision even harder. Last year was a down year for David, but this year, he, Grimes and McCoy are on another level.
I think once again, age prevails. Although Grimes has been phenomenal this year, I don’t think he can keep this level of play up for another three years (I so sincerely hope I’m wrong) so I have to release him.
As for the other two, McCoy has been one of the best defensive tackles in the league for years, and David has had some down years, but is playing out of his mind so far this year.
I think I would trade David, who holds value still. McCoy can single-handedly affect the game whether he’s getting double teamed or only blocked by one guy, he is hard to stop.
The attention he commands helps the rest of the defensive line get one on one match-ups more often than not.
This creates a situation where one guy just needs to beat his opponent and he can make a play. Plus his argument for Batman being a superhero is pretty spot on.
