WORSE: THE OFFENSE

THOUGHT THE BUCCANEERS WERE A TOP OFFENSE?

Against the Bills in week seven Jameis Winston probably played their best game of the season with the team gaining 447 yards of total offense as he completed 32 of 44 passes (73%) for 384 yards and three touchdowns, although the run game wasn’t the best gaining just 69 yards on 25 attempts (2.76 yards/carry).

The offensive output though was enough to win the game as the Buccaneers managed to come from behind and take a 27 to 20 lead, but the Bills offense was too much for the defense and tied it within 45 seconds and then a costly fumble all but ended that game for the Buccaneers as the Bills won 30 to 27.

After the Bills game the Buccaneers had the number one passing offense and the number two total offense so they looked like an offensive juggernaut until week eight against the Panthers.

Let’s move onto that game now then, the number two overall Buccaneers offense struggles mightily against the number two overall defense of the Panthers who were averaging 264 yards per game and 182 passing yards per game.

Winston and the Buccaneers offense started out slowly again as they were not able to get onto the Panthers side of the field until there was 6:19 left in the second quarter, and then even worse they had one play the entire game inside the Panthers red zone with 2:54 left. The Buccaneers “supposedly” high powered offense only was able to gain 108 yards in the first half or 42.5% of their total yards for the game.

Then in the second half they proceeded to gain the remaining 171 yards of their total offense but were unable to convert a third down and even tried a fourth down conversion that they were unable to convert.

The offense didn’t look like the second ranked total offense or the number one rated passing offense in the week eight game against the Panthers, and some claimed it could have been due to the weather conditions during the game or Winston bum shoulder just wasn’t feeling right during the game. Whatever was the cause they had better improve because the schedule doesn’t get any easier against the division leading Saints.
