Special Teams

For much of the season, the special teams has been playing very well. This week was not a great showing for the special teams.

On Brian Anger’s first punt of the game, the protection unit upfront allowed a defender to get in and block the punt. This blocked punt ended in a Saints special teams touchdown right after the Bucs went three and out right before the Saints scored on offense.

A penalty on Devonte Bond set the punt team back five yards and possibly resulting in a missed communication in the protection unit.

Before Sunday afternoon, Buccaneer’s place kicker Patrick Murray, hadn’t missed a kick since arriving at One Buc. With the lone points in the first half coming from Murray, a late field goal attempt of 54 yards was wide left due to a timely time out from Sean Payton.

Murray did make his first attempt at the long field goal, which is encouraging for the Buccaneers knowing he can make thoe long kicks.

The coverage team did get a block on an extra point from the Saints, possibly allowing the offense to start putting points on the board.
