Safeties Marcus Maye and Jamal Adams

The New York Jets are in rebuilding mode and this off-season they drafted two studs in Jamal Adams, LSU, and Marcus Maye, Florida. Jamal Adams has yet to record a turnover but has been productive recording 43 tackles, three pass deflections, and two sacks. Marcus Maye has put up similar numbers with 45 tackles, two pass deflections, and two interceptions. The tandem has been pretty dynamic for the Jets. Jamal Adams has the highest rating for a rookie safety and has the highest pass rush rating for safeties with 14% according to Pro Football Focus.  Pre-draft Marcus Maye was a target for the Buccaneers because they needed safety depth but the Jets snatched him up with their early second round pick. Against the Dolphins Maye had 38 coverage snaps allowing one catch for six yards and an interception.

While both are far from being All-Pros they should get the Jets college scouting department a new contract. They won’t have to deal with Mike Evans this week with him serving his one-game suspension. They will have to deal with speedy DeSean Jackson and the tight end tandem of Cameron Brate and OJ Howard led by Ryan Fitzpatrick. It’s a battle of back-ups for the Buccaneers while the Jets are trying to get to .500 and stay in the AFC wild-card race. Those are the players the Bucs should key on this weekend.
