Chris Godwin

The Bucs got a steal in the third round of this year’s draft, taking Penn State wide receiver Chris Godwin. There was a lot of hype around him throughout training camp, but he has been used sparingly throughout the season. That’s likely due to the coaches wanting to ease him into the offense because there’s an abundance of talent at the position. There’s simply not enough room for Godwin to get more than a few targets a week.

Even still, Godwin has shown flashes throughout the season. In the last two weeks, he has made an impact with the opportunities he’s been given. In the 15-10 win over the Jets two weeks ago, he caught five passes for 68 yards. Mike Evans came back in the 30-20 win over the Dolphins, but Godwin still came up huge on the game-winning drive. He had two catches on that drive for 38 yards, with the second being a 24-yarder that set up the game-winning field goal.

It would be nice to see Godwin get some more looks as the season winds down. The Bucs should want to see more of him for the future, right? Unfortunately, it’s probably not going to happen. He will likely continue to get a few targets per week, barring an injury. But even with minimal opportunities, the rookie is going to show his promise. With whatever targets he gets against the Falcons, expect him to make an impact.
