Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) Weekly: The NFL in Week 12
By Sean Eck
Cam Newton $6,600
Newton is coming off a bye week, and they get to face the Jets who are giving up 346.9 yards-per-game to opposing teams ranking them 21st in the league. He was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week last time he was on the field after he threw for 254-yards and a season-high four touchdowns with no interceptions. Newton also ran for 95-yards.
He became the first player in NFL history with two games of at least four touchdown passes and at least 95 rushing yards. He should continue to take that progress forward against the fading Jets.
These teams are going in opposite directions right now as the Panthers have won three games in a row sporting a 4-1 road record this season, while the Jets have lost three of the last four after a three-game win streak.
Since 2011, Newton leads all players in rushing touchdowns in the red zone with 50 and is the only quarterback in the top ten of this list. This season, his four red zone rushing touchdowns rank seventh in the NFL, while the Panthers have scored touchdowns on 72.7 percent of their red zone trips in the last three games.
Newton also gets help this week with the return of one of the best tight ends of all time. With 625 receptions, 7,393 receiving yards and 52 touchdown receptions in his career, tight end Greg Olsen ranks in the Top-10 all-time among NFL tight ends in receptions and receiving yards and is near the Top-10 in receiving touchdowns. This should just further help Newton reach my predictions of 300 yards passing with at least two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown.
Jared Goff $6,700
Goff had his first forgettable game last week against the stout Vikings defense. This week he leads one of the top offensive attacks in the league against the Saints. While the Saints have been playing better as of late, they are still a team that is prone to giving up a lot of points to solid offensive teams. They just gave up 31 points against the Redskins last week, and the Rams are a much more potent offense. These are two of the top three scoring offenses in the league, and it could be a shootout.
Averaging 18.4 fantasy points per game, Goff is still in the upper echelon of fantasy quarterbacks. He has a 16-4 touchdown to interception ratio and has three games of three or more touchdowns. While the offense could be boom or bust, they should be putting up a lot of points to stay in the game vs. the Saints and Goff will be leading the charge.
The Rams have four receiving options for Goff to chose from and they all have over 400-yards on the season, and each has three or more touchdowns. This offense is built to spread the ball around and the defense not being able to key in on just one receiver. Watch for Goff to throw three touchdowns to three different receiving option as he racks up over 300-yards through the air.
