This time of year is all about two things for Buccaneers fans. One is wallowing in the sadness following a 4-8 record at the end of the NFL’s third quarter, and the other is getting into the holiday spirit. At least I hope that’s the second one for most of you.

However, we can’t all live in sadness forever, and several Buccaneers players were busy Monday doing their best to put smiles on the faces of some of the fans who likely weren’t smiling this past Sunday.

It’s important to remember football is a game, and these players are people with lives an interests. Sure, some of those players and their interests will get them in trouble sometimes. Those will surely grab headlines.

However, there are other times where these players are invested in good things, and those times don’t get nearly enough media attention. Let’s change that for a minute, shall we?

First up, wide receiver DeSean Jackson took 50 children from the Boys and Girls Club of America on a shopping spree, as reported by many but specifically Casey Phillips of Buccaneers.com here:

As mentioned in the tweet, it wasn’t just Jackson participating in the event, but several of his teammates.

Jameis Winston, T.J. Ward, Mike Evans, Donovan Smith, Bobo Wilson, and Robert McClain were amongst the other team players spotted at the event titled, “DeSean Jackson Shop with a Jock”.

Each of the 50 kids reportedly received $100 gift cards to Wal Mart, and of course, got to spend some time with their favorite NFL players.

Next up, defensive tackle Clinton McDonald.

McDonald is no stranger to supporting the military, local and in general. On Monday night, he hosted his Operation Fatherhood event where he welcomed nearly 40 military fathers and their children to One Buc place for some NFL Play 60 drills, and a good time.

The goal of the event pretty much explains itself, and it’s safe to say, the participants had a blast stepping into the building and getting the chance to get up close and personal with such a supportive member of the Buccaneers.

Each impacting the community around them in their own way. All of them doing good with their platforms, resources and personal time.

It’s still been a long season, but these athletes deserve some recognition for what they’ve been doing off the field, and we here at The Pewter Plank are proud to give it to them.

Thank you to the players for reaching out, thank you to you for reading, and Go Bucs!
