Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) Weekly: The NFL in Week 14
By Sean Eck
Matt Ryan $6,400
While Ryan has had mediocre success fantasy wise this season, he gets a prime-time matchup against the Saints and Drew Brees for a chance to gain ground in the tight race for the NFC South crown. One of the critical components of Matt Ryan drives field position. On the season the Saints are 28th in league with an average starting position giving up an average of 19.5 return yards per kick.
This season Ryan has averaged 16.1 fantasy points per game and had yet to have a three-touchdown performance. This week if the Falcons have any chance of keeping up with the high scoring Saints they will have to air the ball out which translates to fantasy points for Ryan. The Vikings last week keyed on Julio Jones and held the Falcons to 173 yards through the air and zero touchdowns total. The Saints are not the Vikings on defense, and Ryan will rebound nicely.
Both teams are averaging 20.3 points per game to opposing offenses, and that number could be inflated quite a bit after this weeks matchup. In 2016, the Falcons won both meetings and averaged 41.5 points in those two wins. This Week Ryan tunes up the Saints defense throwing for over 350 yards and his first three-touchdown game of the year.
Philip Rivers $6,800
Rivers and the Chargers enter this week winners in six of their last eight contests and are as hot as any team in the league. Rivers himself is playing the best football of the season so far. In his previous two games, he has totaled 778 yards passing with four touchdowns and zero interceptions averaging 26.25 fantasy points per game.
This week will be a historic one for Rivers as he only needs 201 more passing yards to reach 49,325 for his career, which would pass Warren Moon for ninth in NFL history. Rivers has his eye on another record this season. He is currently only seven touchdown passes behind Fran Tarkenton for sixth most passing touchdowns in an NFL career.
The Redskins have not fared well against the top tier passers this season. As a team, they are giving up 340.1 yards per game through the air this season and are ranked 26th against opposing quarterbacks for fantasy points against. Rivers this week will continue his hot streak and throw for over 350 yards and three touchdowns en route his record-breaking performance.
