Buccaneers Pick Six: Lions deal season ending blow
By James Yarcho
A Fun List Of Sith…Er, Six
For those that know anything about me know that I am SUPER pumped for Star Wars: The Last Jedi to hit theaters this weekend. In that vain, I’m bringing back a Pick Six category I did in 2015 when The Force Awakens hit theaters. You can find that list here. However, instead of comparing Buccaneers to the titles of the movies, it’s time to pick some beloved characters. Let’s give this a shot…
Rey – Jameis Winston
The new hero of this saga is none other than Rey, played by the phenomenal Daisy Ridley. Rey is young and still learning her way in the galaxy – and with the Force. Jameis fits this role all too well. He makes his mistakes, his boneheaded decisions, but he’s still young and has that drive within. He’s strong “in the Force,” he just needs some guidance and to fulfill…his…destiny.

With the First Pick
Luke Skywalker – Gerald McCoy
The old, grizzled, disheveled Jedi is disappointed in the way things have gone for him in his story. Gerald McCoy can relate all too well. This was supposed to be the season he finally got some postseason experience. He worked so hard for so long, often unappreciated, that he can’t help but feel isolated and alone.
Darth Vader – Lavonte David
Before you freak out, this doesn’t mean Lavonte is a bad guy. Vader is the greatest villain in the history of film. Why? For starters, he doesn’t take crap off anyone. Don’t like what he says? Force choke. Trying to keep him from getting what he wants? Slice you in half with a lightsaber. Lavonte shows some of these characteristics on the field. He’s relentless. He’s going to choke the game out of you one hit at a time. And he’s going to strip the ball out of your hands whenever he wants.
Kylo Ren – Mike Evans
Kylo might be the most powerful Force user ever (up to this point), but he has a propensity to lose his temper from time to time. He has all the potential in the galaxy yet he disappointed his parents and his mentor by turning to the Dark Side. Mike Evans could easily be the best receiver in the NFL. Unfortunately, he hasn’t had the opportunities he should this season and he’s a little bit of a hot head when things aren’t going well.
Han Solo – DeSean Jackson
Han Solo is smug, arrogant, and the best pilot in the galaxy. He even made the kessel run in twelve parsecs. Solo always was the guy who was out for number one – himself – but when the going got tough, his friends could rely on him. DJax has a reputation of being selfish and only worrying about padding his stats. On the contrary – especially as we saw on Hard Knocks – DeSean is a beloved teammate. He only appears selfish because he wants the ball with the belief he is going to help his friends when he has it. He’s shifty, elusive, and insanely fast – much like Solo’s ship, the Millennium Falcon.
Boba Fett – Patrick Murray
Boba Fett is the fan favorite bounty hunter from Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi. Bounty hunters do two things – take out the target and get paid. Who else on this team fits that description better than kicker Pat Murray? Think about it – Boba was hired to take out Han Solo and return him to the vile Jabba The Hutt when no one else could get the job done. What have the Buccaneers had the most trouble with over the past few years? Kicking. So they went out and hired the most deadly gunner for hire they could find and he hasn’t disappointed since.
Hope you all enjoyed this fun little crossover and if you have and character to player comparisons, drop them in the comments below or tweet them to us! I’d love to see them!
