My Buccaneers New Years Resolution is for wide receiver Chris Godwin.

His resolution: Get Ready for Your Coming Out Party.

Pewter Plank writer Michael Horan wrote about Godwin’s impressive rookie season, and the fact Jason Licht got his franchise quite the steal by drafting the former Nittany Lion in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

When called upon, the rookie has delivered. He did have a dropped pass which would have been a big touchdown had he been able to haul it in.

For one, it would have been his first career scoring play. It also would have been crucial score in a game the Bucs lost by just a field goal.

However, this is the only low spot on Godwin’s rookie resume. The rest are all highlights.

He’s done what the team has asked of him from stepping in for starters to playing special teams, and even waiting for the fourth quarter in many games to get involved at all.

There may not be a lot of rapport between he and franchise quarterback Jameis Winston, but if the two work out in the off-season – which I expect they will – then this should all change in 2018.

It’s harder when the expectations get bigger. But I think Godwin can handle it with an off-season of continued physical development, and mental preparation.
