Defensive End, Marcus Davenport – University of Texas San Antonio

If any young competitor raised some eyebrows more than Davenport, I don’t know who it is.

He looked every bit the part of a guy who can develop into a great pass rusher, but also looked very raw.

Raw is what you’d expect from a guy coming from UTSA. It’s not a knock, it’s just the truth.

I could get into Davenport a lot, but our friend Trevor Sikkema already did for The Pewter Report. We’ll place the link, here.

The young man has all the athleticism and ability needed to be successful, but how he hones it and whether or not he can do it consistently is going to be the question.

I’d expect him to show up at the NFL Combine later this year and would expect a rather solid performance from him in the tests.

However, the film doesn’t lie, even from the Senior Bowl.

Loads of potential, not a lot of refinement. Considering the position the Buccaneers’ general manager and coaching staff are in, he may be too developmental for their liking in 2018.

If he slips into the third round though, it’ll be hard for a team a pass rush thirsty as Tampa Bay is to pass on him.
