Keith Tandy is the latest Tampa Bay Buccaneers free agent to be re-signed by the team.
The “Tandy Man” is back, on a two year deal. Safety Keith Tandy joins a growing list of Tampa Bay Buccaneers free agents that have been retained, including tight end Cameron Brate, cornerback Brent Grimes, linebacker Adarius Glanton, and wide receiver Mike Evans. Tandy will be a Buccaneer for at least two more seasons and will likely get a shot to compete for the starting strong safety role.
Since being drafted in 2012 Tandy has been re-signed by the Buccaneers twice; once in 2016, and again this year. The 29 year old has out-performed expectations after being picked in the sixth round, and has been a reliable, versatile player for the Bucs when called upon. In 84 career games Tandy has racked up eight interceptions, 118 tackles, and fourteen passes defensed. Tandy is a valuable special teams player as well – according to the Buccaneer team website, he was second on the team in kick coverage stops, with eight.
Tandy re-joins a relatively thin group of safeties and should be an active part of the rotation next season, if not a starter. While Justin Evans is cemented as the starting free safety the opposite strong safety spot is wide open for competition. The Buccaneers will hope Tandy can re-gain his 2016 form when he intercepted four passes (several of them coming in the clutch to secure victories), and defensed nine more.
