The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected USC running back Ronald Jones II with the 38th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Here, we have three things you need to know about the future of the Buccaneer backfield.

With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers picking early in the second round of this year’s NFL Draft, they were going to have a chance at some guys that fell out of Thursday night’s first round. When LSU’s Derrius Guice, picked by many as a top-three running back heading into the draft, slipped out of round one, a few things needed to fall into place for him to drop to the Bucs. Things played out for Tampa Bay to select him, but like he did on Thursday, general manager Jason Licht surprised some people.

With the 38th pick, Licht selected USC running back Ronald Jones II. After parting ways with Doug Martin earlier in the offseason, the Bucs now have their running back of the future. Jones will be paired with Peyton Barber, as well as Jacquizz Rodgers and Charles Sims. With the early second round pick of a running back, Tampa Bay filled a major need.

Jones was linked to the Buccaneers a fair amount throughout the draft process. However, like Vita Vea, many Bucs fans seemed to favor other guys over him. With that, we have three things you need to know about the USC product.
