2. He is the Second Lineman From a Small School to be Drafted by Jason Licht

When the Bucs drafted Alex Cappa, there were many that made note of how the fit made sense. In fact, there were some linking Tampa Bay to Cappa throughout the pre-draft process. Why? Well, he comes from a smaller school and Buccaneer general manager Jason Licht seems to have a thing for offensive lineman from non-Division I programs.

Of course, Cappa isn’t the first non-Division I lineman to be taken by Licht in Tampa Bay. The first was Ali Marpet, who Licht drafted out of Hobart, a Division III school. The selection of Marpet, which came after the team traded back in to the second round of the 2015 draft, has turned out to be a great one. He was named to the Pro Football Writers’ Association’s all-rookie team in 2015 and has continued to play at a Pro Bowl level since. The Bucs obviously hope they can get the same kind of play from another small-school product in Cappa.

There’s plenty to like about Cappa on film and his size is evident. He stands at 6-foot-6 and weighs in at 305 pounds. That is a large man, one that should definitely see success at the professional level. The fact that he comes from Division II is surely what caused some teams to stay away from him. However, the Bucs could have gotten a steal in the third round by selecting him to beef up their line.
