Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Three things to know about Carlton Davis
By Bailey Adams
With the 63rd overall pick in this year’s draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers continued to add to their secondary with the selection of Auburn cornerback Carlton Davis. Here, we have three things you need to know about the former Tiger.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers added to their secondary twice in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. First, it was North Carolina’s M.J. Stewart. After trading down to add some picks, the Bucs took Auburn cornerback Carlton Davis with the 63rd overall pick. The move gives the team some much-needed depth in the secondary, especially with the high likelihood that 2018 could be Brent Grimes‘ final season.
Davis’ distinction on his NFL.com draft profile is that he “should become instant starter,” which is certainly possible considering the current situation on the Tampa Bay defense. With Vernon Hargreaves III still somewhat of an unknown, Davis is another option to play on the other side of Grimes this year before potentially leading the cornerback group in the future.
With Stewart and Davis now on the roster, the Bucs have a completely new look on defense. They added Beau Allen, Mitch Unrein, Vinny Curry and Jason Pierre-Paul to the defensive line in March. Then, on day one of the draft, the team added Vita Vea to the mix. The linebackers were already a strength of the team, so adding two new rookies to the secondary completes the defensive overhaul.
