Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Three things to know about Carlton Davis
By Bailey Adams
1. He Has Florida Roots
Before starring on Auburn’s defense, Carlton Davis was one of the best high school prospects in Florida. Playing at Miami Norland High School, Davis became one of the best cornerbacks in the state, helped greatly by his senior season. In his final season with the Vikings, he totaled 50 tackles and six interceptions. Those numbers earned him tons of recognition, including a spot on the Class 6A all-state team, as well as the All-Dade first team. Both Rivals and 247Sports had him ranked as one of the top 25 prospects in Florida.
With the build, numbers and accolades that he possessed at the high school level, Davis had his fair share of college offers. According to his ESPN.com recruiting profile, he had eighteen offers. Among the eighteen was interest from big-time programs such as Miami, Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Ohio State and Auburn. He initially committed to Ohio State before flipping to Auburn.
After spending three seasons with the Tigers, Davis now comes back to his home state. When he plays his home games at Raymond James Stadium on Sundays in the fall, he will be about four hours away from where he played high school ball. Many people say that Florida athletes, and Miami products specifically, are a different breed. Adding a guy like Davis, with his Florida roots, is a step in the right direction for the Tampa Bay defense.
