2. He Had a Decorated Career at Auburn

Carlton Davis’ college career at Auburn came to an unceremonious end when he sat out of the team’s Peach Bowl loss to UCF with an injury. However, his career as a Tiger was nothing short of spectacular. He earned a first-team spot as a freshman and went on to be a three-year starter. Each year, Davis earned some big honors due to his solid performance at cornerback.

As a freshman in 2015, Davis totaled 56 tackles (38 solo), three interceptions and eight passes defended. For his efforts, he received a nod to the SEC All-Freshman team, the first Auburn defensive back to earn the honor since 2009. In his sophomore season, he picked up 46 tackles and ten passes defended. That year, he earned All-SEC third team honors from Athlon Sports after earning a preseason third team selection.  He earned the most recognition in his junior season, with a first team All-American selection from SI.com and a spot on the All-SEC first team. His eleven passes defended gave him 29 for his career.

His production with the Tigers, as well as his 6-foot-1, 206-pound build had him pegged by many as a second-rounder. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. initially had him being taken in the first round. Now, Kiper can be pretty unreliable, don’t get me wrong. However, the fact that Davis had a first round grade at one time says a lot about his NFL future.
