With their second pick of the second round, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected defensive back M.J. Stewart out of the University of North Carolina. Here, we have three things to know about the former Tar Heel.
After spending their first two picks of the draft on a defensive tackle and running back, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers badly needed to address their secondary. With the 53rd overall pick in the draft, the Bucs selected North Carolina defensive back M.J. Stewart. They selected Stewart with some more familiar names on the board, which is becoming a theme of this weekend. Nonetheless, Tampa Bay now has some help for its secondary that badly needs it.
The Bucs have an interesting situation in their secondary at the moment, with a blend of youth and experience. Brent Grimes and Chris Conte are seasoned veterans, but Vernon Hargreaves III, Javien Elliott, Ryan Smith and Justin Evans are a young core for the future. Add Stewart (plus the next second round pick) to that mix, and Tampa Bay has a lot of young talent behind its revamped defensive line.
