Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Chris Godwin receiving praise ahead of year two
Many members of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization spoke to the media recently, and apparently many had good things to say about wide receiver Chris Godwin.
A third-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017, Godwin came out of Penn State via Delaware and has quickly solidified his position in Tampa, Florida.
Coming into his second season as an NFL receiver, many members of the fanbase are hopeful he will improve upon his solid rookie numbers.
Godwin appeared in all sixteen games last year and started two. In total, he brought in 34 receptions for 525-yards and the game-winning touchdown in Week 17 against the hated New Orleans Saints.
While it’s no surprise to hear fans, coaches and teammates speaking highly of Godwin, one coach who also showered praise on the receiver was special teams coordinator Nate Kaczor.
When asked what made the player so special, Kaczor pointed to his intellect, toughness, work ethic, running ability and size as key features.
Specifically, Kaczor stated,
"“It’s really hard for a player that has all that to underachieve. So he’s always going to be a consistent player…For example last year, there was a game where he had two solo special teams tackles, and as you know if you get fourteen or fifteen solos in a year you’re probably on the Pro Bowl ballot. He had two solos in one game and also had five catches.”"

Twice in 2017 Godwin had five catches in a single contest. The first came in Week 10 against the New York Jets and the second came in Week 14 versus the Detroit Lions.
He had 68-yards receiving in each. Talk about consistency.
Simply put consistency may not be the most exciting feature an NFL player can possess, but fans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers may appreciate more than others, guys who can be consistent contributors.
Every year has the potential to be a big one for every player. However, for Godwin this is especially true.
DeSean Jackson’s contract is very beneficial to the team as a prime release candidate before the 2019 season. And even if the team keeps him, they won’t have him long either by virtue of future free-agency or retirement.
Either way, the Bucs need to find their number two of the future. If it’s Godwin, this is the year for him to show it.
