The Tampa Bay Buccaneers removed a former pro bowl player at this position, and drafted one in the second-round. The second edition of this year’s NFC South position rankings will cover a position considered dead or dying to many: the running back.
We began this series last week with the quarterbacks like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ own Jameis Winston, playing inarguably the most important position in football.
This week the series continues with running backs, arguably the least important position in football. (Full disclosure: I think running backs are actually quite important!) The Tampa Bay Buccaneers struggled to run the ball last season, but their three southern rivals can’t say the same.
Much like their group of quarterbacks, the NFC South can boast some quality runners of the football. All three of the Saints, Falcons and Panthers make running the football a priority in their offenses, despite high-level play from the signal caller.
The picture is much less clear for the Bucs backfield, but more on that a bit later.
Starting with the division champ Saints we’ll go over all four of the NFC south backfields, and then make a final ranking afterwards. Let’s get started.
