Our sixth installment of rankings will cover the safeties of the NFC South. How will the much-maligned group of Buccaneer safeties match up with the rest of the division?
Safeties. I can hear Buccaneers fans groaning at just the mention of the position. Few spots have been more of a stain on the Buccaneers than safeties over the last ten or so years. A once proud position led by John Lynch and Dexter Jackson, the position has since eroded to discount versions of those players.
Fortunately for the Buccaneers, the rest of the NFC South isn’t much better off. There is one king of the group who has already made himself familiar with one particular Tampa Bay receiver, and a few solid starters elsewhere, but mostly it’s a tight race for who is best. In fact, all four South teams seem to heavily lean on their front seven to cover up for iffy deep coverage.
In our usual order of division standings we’ll break down each contributing safety in the division, and then rank the groups from best to worst on the final slide. Who is ready to read about the White Unicorn!?
