Buccaneers-Titans: 3 things to keep an eye on
By Ryan Doyle
Can a running back standout?
Last week, the Buccaneer running backs provided one answer: Peyton Barber is the team’s starting running back.
Ronald Jones followed Barber and the second-round selection didn’t provide much spark. Regardless, entering the first preseason game with the second team is a fantastic sign regarding how much the coaching staff likes his ability.
Behind Jones is where the mystery lies. Veterans Charles Sims and Jacquizz Rodgers were quiet in last week’s contest. The last man on the depth chart, Dare Ogunbowale was the only back to make an impact besides Barber and Jones, who had a touchdown each.
With undrafted free agent Shaun Wilson in the fold, the running back battle has just gotten started. Wilson has received by far the most buzz in camp out of the group. However, the pair of veterans ahead of him are familiar with Dirk Koetter’s system and have been with the team for some time.
As the top of the depth chart has settled, the third running back spot is up for grabs. After not much movement in the first preseason game, this contest could be the turning point for one of the backs.
