The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had some intriguing names at their tryouts this week, including a former first-round quarterback.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers brought in Paxton Lynch for a workout on Wednesday, according to Trevor Sikkema of PewterReport.com. The former first-round pick was cut by the Denver Broncos before the regular season.

Lynch was the 26th overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft. He started in four games during his time in Denver, he was 1-3, with four touchdowns, four interceptions and a 61.7 completion percentage.

Although he didn’t show much promise in his short time in Denver, his release, this season was a bad sign. For a team to give up on him in just a few years is extremely telling.

Lynch likely won’t end up with the Bucs in 2018, but with Ryan Griffin and Ryan Fitzpatrick both entering free agency next year, Tampa Bay could take a shot in the dark and try to develop a talented quarterback.

During the same group of workouts, the Buccaneers also brought in veteran running back Charcandrick West. In four years with the Chiefs, West racked up 1551 yards from scrimmage and 12 touchdowns.

West is a solid dual-threat back who can hold his own on the ground and catch passes out of the backfield. He can’t be a lead back, but he was serviceable in a complementary role with the Chiefs.

The Buccaneers likely won’t sign any of these players, but West is an intriguing eye if an injury occurs. Running Dare Ogunbowale remains on the practice squad, but West is one of the better available free agents if Tampa Bay would instead get a veteran involved.

Odds are, neither of these players will don the red and pewter, but they are names to keep an eye on if an injury happens. Especially with West. The Bucs need help at running back as it is so he could be one of the first players to get a call.

Also, there’s no indication that Tampa is trying to move Griffin or Fitzpatrick, the Lynch workout was simple check-in to see if he is worth inviting to camp next year.
