Buccaneers Midseason Awards: MVP, breakout player and more
Offensive Player of the Year: Mike Evans, Wide Receiver
Somehow, some way, Mike Evans continues to outdo himself. The elite Buccaneers receiver has eclipsed a thousand yards receiving in every season of his brilliant young career, but this season he’s on track to beat all of those previous marks.
Through eight games this season and several changes at quarterback he has 770 yards, four touchdowns and 46 receptions. Following that pace, he would easily beat his touchdown count from last year (5), and yards (1,001) and catches (71).
The impact of Evans on the Tampa Bay offense can’t be overstated. He gives quarterbacks with relatively unreliable accuracy like Winston and Fitzpatrick an impossibly large catch radius to work with, and there isn’t a single corner in the league that can bully him on contested catches.
With a friendly schedule on the horizon, we can expect to see Evans continue to build on what could be the best season of his career.
