Dirk Koetter returns as the play caller

For the first time all season, Koetter returned to call the plays for the Buccaneers offense. While Fitzpatrick didn’t feel like the play calling was much different with offensive coordinator Todd Monken, it certainly looked different.

Koetter relied heavily on scatback Jacquizz Rodgers and looked away from O.J. Howard in the red zone.

Although fans may want to scream about Koetter’s decisions on Sunday, the players need to execute. Four turnovers and drops from both Cameron Brate and Mike Evans in the red zone aren’t on Koetter.

Remember, the Bucs gained 501 yards on offense. Fitzpatrick moved the ball efficiently down the field, but the unit couldn’t finish.

It’s intriguing that Koetter took over in the most pivotal game of the season. Monken seemed to have everything under control. Tampa Bay ranked among the top offenses in the league. Koetter may have wanted to put his destiny in his own hands.
