QB Jameis Winston

The Buccaneers picked up Winston’s $20.9 million fifth-year option in April. Unless the Buccaneers have a significant change of heart and decide to rescind his option and allow him to test free agency, he will be in red and pewter for at least another season.

Right now, the front office likely has no intention of extending Winston’s contract past the 2019 season. Winston hasn’t shown any signs of improvement on game day, regardless of his behavior off the field.

Head coach Dirk Koetter handed Winston the starting job once he returned and he flopped. Following his final game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Winston shared the league lead in interceptions.

Although Ryan Fitzpatrick will continue to be the starter for at least another week, there is a solid chance that Winston returns to the role in the final weeks of the season.

With his future with the organization on the line, Winston needs to show signs that he can be Tampa Bay’s franchise quarterback.

If he shines as the season winds down, ownership, the next coaching staff, and the fan base will stand behind him again.
