Buccaneers: Ranking 5 biggest offseason targets in 2019
By Ryan Doyle
If Tampa Bay makes a splash in free agency along the defensive front or in the secondary, they will need to find value at linebacker. The linebacking trio of Kendell Beckwith, Kwon Alexander and Lavonte David will return in 2019, making the organization’s primary focus to be depth at the position.
Arizona Cardinals linebacker Deone Bucannon is the perfect fourth linebacker option and one who can excel in nickel packages, something the Bucs often find themselves in.
With new head coach Steve Wilks at the helm in Arizona, Bucannon has taken a backseat. With his playing time dwindling, he could rejuvenate his career in Tampa Bay.
Although Andrew Adams is listed as a safety on the depth chart, he has played reasonably well in a role similar to Bucannon’s. Adams was a mid-season addition and was largely unknown when he joined the roster. If the Bucs can find a more talented option like Bucannon, it could help their pass defense immensely.
Regardless of the specific player, the Bucs need to find quality depth at linebacker in 2019.
