No room on the ground

Tampa Bay has talent at the running back position. Peyton Barber has proven that he can be relied upon as a lead back and rookie Ronald Jones showed tremendous ability at USC in college.

The offensive line hasn’t done the Tampa Bay runners any favors. Right tackle Demar Dotson wasn’t able to suit up, leaving Leonard Wester to fill his shoes. Caleb Benenoch and Alex Cappa lined up next to Wester. It was a disaster waiting to happen.

When an entire side of the offensive line struggles to open up holes, the running game can become extremely one-dimensional. Far too easy for a veteran front like Carolina’s to read.

The Panthers made them both look lost on Sunday. Barber had nowhere to go on the ground, gaining just 45 yards on 16 carries while Jones earned two yards on four carries.
