WR Adam Humphries
A month ago, it appeared that the Buccaneers could re-sign Adam Humphries for a low-cost deal. Quickly Humphries has risen the pecking order for Tampa Bay. He now sits comfortably in the slot and is second on the team in catches with 57. Humphries is second on the team with five touchdowns. He also has 648 receiving yards.
At 26 years old, Humphries may be one of the most prized free agents at the receiver position. Taking a peek at his numbers compared to Josh Gordon and Golden Tate — who are also headed into free agency, Humphries stacks up well.
The Bucs will likely release DeSean Jackson after this season, which would free up $11 million in cap space, but Tampa Bay won’t turn that money around to pay another receiver.
Humphries will undoubtedly be on the organization’s radar. If other teams drive up the price of the former undrafted free agent, the Bucs will have to find another player to fill the hole.
Tampa has a nice duo in Chris Godwin at Mike Evans; they may not feel the need to invest more money in wideouts. This will be one of the toughest decisions for the Tampa Bay front office.
