The Buccaneers might be seeing Dirk Koetter on the opposite sidelines for years to come. He may be back with the Atlanta Falcons in 2019.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter will land on his feet. He has become a front-runner for the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator position, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Koetter was let go by the Buccaneers just hours after their Week 17 loss to Atlanta. He spent three seasons with Tampa Bay. He accumulated a 19-29 record and was unable to snap the Bucs’ playoff drought.

A return to Atlanta makes plenty of sense. Koetter spent three seasons with the Falcons as their OC before he agreed to a deal with the Bucs for the same role in 2015.

Atlanta made changes of their own this offseason. Head coach Dan Quinn kept his job, but the coaching staff had major shakeup earlier today.

The Falcons fired offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, defensive coordinator Marquand Manuel and special teams Keith Armstrong.

A significant overhaul comes after a disappointing season for Atlanta. After back-to-back trips to the postseason, the Falcons 7-9 finish was one of the most disappointing finishes of 2018.

Although most Buccaneers fans wanted Koetter gone, many felt that he would be better suited as a coordinator. Tampa Bay’s offense was always one of the best in the league. In 2018, the Bucs were top ten in yards, points, and passing yards. Atlanta

It appears that the “Koetter revenge game” narrative will be all over the television next season. Hopefully, the Bucs can get the best of their former head coach. Koetter will surely be at his best when Tampa Bay is on the schedule next season.

Koetter will join former Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris on the Falcons sideline. Morris is currently the wide receivers coach in Atlanta.
