Defensive coaches
Defensive coordinator: Todd Bowles
Received his first head coaching job after a successful stint as Arians’ defensive coordinator with the Cardinals. Bowles will now look to prove himself again by rebuilding Tampa Bay’s defense. A tall task for sure, but if he manages to, it could lead to another top job.
Linebackers coach: Mike Caldwell/Larry Foote
Spent 10 years in the NFL as a linebacker, Caldwell will follow Bowles again. He spent two seasons under Arians, before tagging along with Bowles to New York. He was the assistant head coach and inside linebackers coach.
Foote is another former NFL player who has found his footing under Arians. He will coach the outside linebackers.
Defensive line coach: Kacy Rodgers
UPDATE: According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport, Rodgers was offered a position with the New York Giants. He will now weight the Bucs and Giants offers.
Another trusted Bowles assistant, Rodgers was Bowles’ defensive coordinator with the Jets. His units in New York didn’t put up impressive numbers, but he was hampered with a young, rebuilding group for the past few seasons. He has over two decades experience as a defensive line coach.
Defensive backs coach: Kevin Ross and Nick Rapone
According to ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss, the Bucs will be bringing in Kevin Ross and Nick Rapone as defensive assistants. They worked with Arians in Arizona. No official titles on them yet but they should be involved with the defensive backs.
Special Teams coordinator: Keith Armstrong
The Bucs could use improvement on special teams. Aside from their well-documented kicking woes, Tampa Bay hasn’t made enough plays in that department. Armstrong brings plenty of experience. He has held a special teams coordinator position for decades.
Specialists coach: Chris Boniol
A highly-regarded coach, Boniol will work with the Buccaneers long snapper, kicker and punter. He played six years in the NFL.
