Buccaneers: One first-round NFL Draft prospect for each position of need
By Ryan Doyle
Defensive end/EDGE
EDGE Josh Allen – Kentucky
Arguably the top pass rusher in the 2019 class, Josh Allen will be atop many organization’s draft boards in April.
Allen was one of the key players behind the rise of the Kentucky football program. He worked his way from a rotational pass rusher to the team’s best defensive player. His 2018 campaign saw him rack up 17.0 sacks, 21.5 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles and 88 total tackles. Those numbers are mind-boggling.
Although the Bucs managed to improve their pass rush thanks in large part to Jason Pierre-Paul, they lack a truly dominant edge rusher. Allen could provide that and more in a new-look, Todd Bowles led, defense.
Tampa Bay could do much better at defensive end. Vinny Curry and Carl Nassib are nice players, but they aren’t very consistent when it comes to rushing the passer. Plus, Noah Spence’s future with the Bucs is cloudy at best. Landing Allen in the first round could create a devastating front seven in Tampa.
