QB Jameis Winston

The  Buccaneers will go as far as Jameis Winston takes them in 2019.

Entering his fifth year in the NFL, Winston has taken baby steps in his development. The strides are apparent, but they have yet to translate towards the win column.

Next season, the fan base cannot blame the coaching staff for Winston’s struggles. There will be no more room for excuses with a proven head coach at the helm. If  Winston cannot succeed in a system that saw Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Andrew Luck and Carson  Palmer have success, it will be time to look for a new quarterback.

Thankfully, Winston should find himself in a comfortable situation with Arians leading the charge. Arians loves to get his quarterbacks involved in the game planning. Winston will be able to help develop a plan of attack each week which should boost his confidence on a snap-by-snap basis.

Plus, the play-caller will be former NFL quarterback Byron Leftwich. Having a voice like that in his head all game should be enough to keep him under control. Those questionable decisions should be cut down with terrific preparation and coaching on the sidelines.

It’s not uncommon to raise questions about Arians’ risk-taking style. It leads to turnovers, which shouldn’t be a problem if those other chances lead to points (which they do more often than not).

The other criticism will be the number of hits Winston will take. Even then, Winston was one of the best quarterbacks in the league when under pressure, according to ESPN’s NFL Matchup. He can shake off defenders and deliver strikes to receivers running open deep.

With a coaching staff that has his back, expect the best version of Winston next season.
