S  Tyrann Mathieu (Houston Texans)

Plenty has been said already about the Buccaneers as a potential landing spot for the Honey Badger. Tyrann Mathieu has a well-documented relationship with Arians, and the former All-Pro would fill a pressing need.

Arians was the coach who gave Mathieu a second chance. Assuming Tampa Bay offers a competitive contract, Mathieu could value his history with the Bucs new coaching staff enough to make Tampa serious contenders.

On the field, Mathieu makes plenty of sense. He will provide leadership in a young secondary and finally give the unit a true playmaker. Last season, the Bucs had just nine interceptions. Adding a player of Mathieu’s caliber will put the rest of the defensive backs in a position to force more turnovers.

The main concern about Mathieu will be his price tag. Although the safety market was unusually quiet a season ago, Mathieu may finally be able to cash-in with a longterm deal.

The Buccaneers won’t have much cap room to work with if they sign a star free agent. Unless the team is serious about moving on from veterans like Gerald McCoy, Mathieu would need to perform at his best for the move to pay off.
