Karl Joseph

The former first-round pick for the Raiders in 2016, Karl Joseph’s name could not find its way out of trade rumors all throughout the season as teammates and other former first round picks of the team Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper were shipped off. The offseason is upon us, and Joseph could still be dealt.

Although Joseph is a former first round pick, this writer would estimate that his services could be acquired for a future fourth or fifth round pick as Oakland is looking to reload and rebuild over the next season or two. For a secondary that struggled as much as the Buccaneers did last season, adding a veteran safety who has performed at a high level to that group would benefit Todd Bowles and his defense tremendously.

Throughout his three-year career to this point, Joseph has tallied an interception per season, while also playing in the box and proving he can make an impact at and behind the line of scrimmage. With one year and then his fifth-year option left on his deal, the Bucs could potentially keep him in Tampa Bay through the 2020 season.

Last year a former first round safety in Damarious Randall was traded by the Packers by merely swapping fifth and sixth rounders with the Browns and also acquiring backup quarterback Deshone Kizer. With that standard being set just a year ago, the price for Joseph could not be much higher than a mid-late round pick.
