Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Weekly 7-round mock draft (Vol. 2)
By Cory Kinnan
3.7 Jaquan Johnson S Miami
Chris Conte tore his ACL after receiving a massive stiff arm from Pittsburgh Steelers’ tight end Vance McDonald, a blow that went viral, and is now set to hit free agency at the age of 29. Needless to say, he will not draw much of a market and will be unlikely to return to Tampa Bay.
While the team has a potential longtime starter in Justin Evans, last year’s second round selection, the team still needs to get him a running mate as Jordan Whitehead is absolutely upgradeable. Here in the third round, the Bucs land Jaquan Johnson from Miami, keeping a Florida native in his home state.
Throughout his four-year career as a Miami Hurricane, Johnson appeared in a whopping 48 games and bordered on 100 tackles in each of his Junior and Senior seasons. That is a massive number of tackles for a player who plays at the third level of the defense. On top of his tackle numbers, the Senior safety also tallied eight interceptions in his career, displaying his ability to patrol the deep part of the field.
