Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 2019 7-round NFL mock draft (Volume III)
By Cory Kinnan

5.7: Marvell Tell III S USC
With their fifth round pick, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Marvell Tell III, safety, USC.
Hitting the secondary hard in the draft, the Buccaneers add another young piece to the puzzle of the defensive third level by snagging Marvell Tell III from Southern California. Although Justin Evans turned a corner during his sophomore campaign in Tampa Bay, Chris Conte is set to hit free agency after tearing his ACL in 2018 and it is a safe bet to assume that he will be playing his football elsewhere in 2019.
Drafting Tell in the fifth would be an upgrade for the Buccaneers as backup Jordan Whitehead was not a dependable starter in replacement for Conte in 2018, and is better served with some time to learn and on special teams. It has been a whirlwind of a season for Tell, who entering the year was listed as the top safety in the class by many draft experts.
However, after struggling early in his Senior season, his name began to fall down big boards, then to add insult to injury, a nagging injury prohibited him from participating in the Senior Bowl with other safety draft prospect Nasir Adderley. He finished his career with the Trojans with five interceptions, 6.5 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble.
