Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 3 Bargains to target in free agency
By Cory Kinnan
Spencer Ware
With the impending restricted free agency of starting running back Peyton Barber and the slow start to Ronald Jones’s career, the Buccaneers should be in the market for a running back. Given Tampa Bay’s current cap situation, they may need to shop on the clearance rack as well.
If there is anything we know about Arians, it is that he cherishes a back that can catch passes out of the backfield and run between the tackles. Spencer Ware could be a dual-threat option for Arians at a bargain cost for the Buccaneers.
Throughout his four year career, the 27-year-old back out of Louisiana State has started 18 games, and in a limited role, Ware has rushed for over 1,500 yards and 11 touchdowns, adding an additional 676 yards and two touchdowns catching the ball out of the backfield. In 2016 after yet another injury to veteran Jamaal Charles, Ware started 14 games for the Chiefs and tallied nearly 1,400 total yards and five scores.
If Ware were given another opportunity to become a bellcow, he may be able to return to producing quality numbers. At a bargain rate, this lightly used back could be a steal for the Buccaneers when free agency hits in a little over a week.
