After four years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it appears that Kwon Alexander has signed a four-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network broke the news that former middle line backer of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Kwon Alexander has reached a four-year agreement with the San Francisco 49ers. The deal is reportedly worth $54 million, equating to $13.5 million annually. On par with the reports filing in this morning, Alexander is on his way out of Tampa Bay.

While Jason Licht and his team were hopeful to bring Alexander back, it became clear rather quickly that the linebacker would get much more money on the open market than the Buccaneers could offer him. While it was reported that the Bucs offered him a long-term deal, many believed it to be in the $8 million per year range, well under par of what Alexander received from the 49ers.

After tearing his ACL six games into the 2018 season, the Buccaneers were hesitant to shell out double-digit millions of dollars out of fear that he would not return to form after rehabbing his knee. It is not like Tampa Bay had a lot of cap room to play around with anyway.

Alexander finishes his four-year tenure with the Buccaneers with one Pro Bowl appearance while on his way to another in 2018 before his devastating injury. He tallied 380 tackles, 31 of which came behind the line of scrimmage, and seven sacks while playing in Tampa Bay. Alexander added six interceptions, one defensive touchdown, and six forced fumbles in 46 career starts as well.

This is one of many players to see the door out of Tampa Bay as a roster deconstruction is in the making. Former teammates DeSean Jackson, Adam Humphries, and Gerald McCoy may not be far behind.

Now with another hole to fill, the Buccaneers look primed to trade out of the fifth overall spot, add more draft assets and seek to infuse a good deal of youth into an overall aging roster. Alexander will be missed, and The Pewter Plank wishes him nothing but the best in San Francisco.
